Dad thought it would help if he took me to work with him I might come out of my shell a little bit.

It worked.

I would ride in the truck and watch him work for hours and never get bored. No matter who he was talking to or how bad the problem was he always remained calm, cool, and collected.

One day Dad asked me to go out with him to a house I’ll never forget. It was infested with bed bugs so bad I didn’t know how the family could live there.

It turns out they didn’t have a choice. They had nowhere to go and very little money. What they needed was some help, some real help.

By this point, Dad was letting me do more than just watch. Sometimes he let me spray and other times I’d set traps. But at this house, I had no idea what to do and I didn’t think Dad did either.

But he did know. Slowly he worked room by room with the patience of a saint. He did most of the work that day and it seemed like we were in that house forever. By the time we left, it was dark out.

When we went back the next day to check on things the family was grinning from ear to ear. They couldn’t stop thanking us and I knew at that moment I wanted to help people the same way.

Eventually, Dad hired me and I worked with him for 10 years before I set out on my own. I live in this community, I work in this community. I know this community.

I don’t have a bunch of TV commercials or fancy vans but I get the job done and customers keep asking me to come back and that’s enough for me.
