My dad told me that if I didn’t have my integrity, I didn’t have anything. After 43 years of being an electrician, I can tell you he was right.

Those words have been my north star, and I can tell you they hold up just fine year after year. That’s not something I say because it sounds good; I say it because I’ve lived it.

When I started doing my own jobs, I had virtually no money. A home builder asked me to wire a house, and I was grateful for the work. The problem was I didn’t have enough money to buy the materials. After selling just about everything I owned and getting a loan from a friend, I finished the job.

I paid off the loan and bought my stuff back then, but something happened that I never expected. Over the next year, I wired 80 houses for that customer and wrote the business playbook I’m still using.

What I forgot to mention is that I did that work while holding down a full-time job. I’d do the work at night, and over time, I built a solid reputation for doing great work for a fair price.

When I say playbook, it’s really just one sentence.

Great work for a fair price and do right by the customer.

After 17 years working for other people and saving my pennies, I opened this business, and we’ve had just about all the work we can stand since then.

Give every customer a great experience.

That’s not because I’m some kind of magician, it’s because of that playbook and the integrity seed Dad planted in me all those years ago. I tell my staff all the time that anyone can do this work, but nobody cares like we do.

Even when we’re not perfect, the playbook works. Battling pneumonia, I had to reschedule a service call 3 times, and the customer left us a horrible review. Truth is, we deserved it.

When I saw that customer around town and apologized, he changed that review, and that’s not something I had to ask for. He did it because we were humble.

I could tell you a million stories about the ups and downs of business, but that’s for another time. After all these years, I’m grateful we’re still going strong, and I still wake up thinking about getting trucks on the road and my favorite phrase.

Let’s Roll!

Sincerely,

When I say playbook, it’s really just one sentence. Great work for a fair price and do right by the customer.

Give a local business the gift of the spotlight. Let us know what sets them apart, and we just might feature them in our next edition.

    questions
    & answers

How do you make your final selections?

We interview each business owner. We take into account how long they’ve been in business, how much experience they have, what sets them apart, and what customers are saying.

Can we nominate a business again if they don’t get selected the first time?

Yes. We keep track of all nominations, but we get so many that there just isn’t a way to feature everyone. If a business gets multiple nominations, we’ll certainly take notice and give them proper consideration.

We were featured. How can we get a hard copy?

Just ask. We can send you a beautiful framed copy of your feature that you’d be proud to hang on any wall. Fill out the form above or send an email to

What if a business is really small?

Size doesn’t matter here. Quality is what we’re after. We’re looking for exceptional businesses that go above and beyond serving their community, regardless of their size.

    Can we nominate a startup?

Yes, but it will be tough to get featured. Our judges prefer to see some experience and a proven track record before being recognized
